Dear Manitoba Snowbirds,
I, along with our Director for Central Canada John Foster, recently travelled to Manitoba to meet with Manitoba Health Minister Theresa Oswald. We requested the Manitoba government extend the time Manitoba residents could spend outside the country from 6 to 7 months and still retain their provincial health coverage.
I am happy to report that on April 1, 2013, Manitoba Health increased the length of time Manitoba residents may temporarily reside outside of Canada to a maximum of 7 months in a 12-month period.
The CSA would like to thank Manitoba Health Minister Theresa Oswald for meeting with us, listening to the concerns of our members and taking the necessary action to get this done. Manitoba is now the fourth province in Canada to permit absences of up to seven months along with Ontario, British Columbia and Newfoundland and Labrador. This is great news for Manitoba snowbirds.
