Air Conditioning Costs

Dear Bird Talk,
I am paying almost $200 a month hydro for my 1,400 sq. ft in Lakeland; the only thing running is the AC, set at 85. We have been told if we cut off the AC, we will come back to a mould-infested home, so I wonder, do most just pay these high bills or do they cut off the hydro for the six months, and take their chances??

Ed: My personal choice is to leave it set at 85-90 degrees. When mould invades, it can be a disaster; it gets in behind the walls and totally ruins furniture and carpets. To properly get rid of mould would entail removing the walls and spraying with one of the many mould-removal products. Mould needs moisture to grow and leaving a home unattended, uncooled and sealed allows moisture to condense and mould flourishes.
