Ed: This is the second most-asked question.
The IRA in the United States (that’s the tax department) wants to tax you on your worldwide income! If you spend three months a year in the U.S., they can! – unless you file a form 8840 which “proves” that you have a closer connection to Canada than to the U.S.
They will accept this form and leave you alone, in our experience. Technology is giving our governments more and more information and power; you do not want to fool with them. The 8840 is not mandatory but…
