In response to the emergence of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, the Canadian federal government announced yesterday that they have reinstated the travel advisory against all non-essential international travel effective December 15, 2021. The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is advising travellers, regardless of their vaccination status, to avoid non-essential travel internationally.
The full text of the global travel advisory can be accessed here, https://travel.gc.ca/travelling/health-safety/travel-health-notices/226.
IMPORTANT:
- To all members that have purchased Medipac Travel Insurance, OR intend to purchase Medipac, the recent travel advisory has NO impact on your coverage nor the Medipac policy.
- Members may still purchase Medipac and be fully covered for medical emergencies, including COVID-19, in accordance with the terms and conditions of the policy.
- Medipac clients that have already departed are NOT required to return to Canada in response to the travel advisory.
If you are insured with another provider, other than Medipac, you should contact your provider to ensure that the travel advisory does not affect your coverage.
While the federal government is considering additional restrictions, no new measures have been implemented at this time. Travellers can review the current requirements for re-entry back into Canada here, https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid.
The Canadian Snowbird Association will continue to monitor related developments and provide members with updates as soon as new information is available.
