Arizona Vehicle Identification Cards
Posted date : Nov 6, 2017.
Dear Bird Talk,
Thanks for the e-mail with the information as to location and dates for your winter show/gathering in Greater Phoenix. I have attended in past years, and intend to do so again this year.
You may want to consider adding the state of Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) to the exhibitors for your show in Arizona. The state of Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles has available, AT NO CHARGE (if age 65 or over) an Arizona identification card with your picture on it. You simply have to go into a DMV office, present your passport, and they will issue the card – good for six months.
You might ask WHY a snowbird would need such a card. Well, last winter, I tried to purchase some non-prescription, behind-the-counter allergy pills from a major pharmacy here in Phoenix. The TWO pharmacists on duty asked me for some government-issued, photo ID. I showed them some Canadian (Ontario)-issued ID, but they refused it, saying that the ID had to be U.S. They refused to sell me the pills. I subsequently obtained the Arizona ID card, and had no problem with future purchases. AND, just today, my wife was making a purchase at a local sewing-supply store – a national chain – and presented a discount coupon from the local paper. The paper discount coupon stated that it was good only if the individual presenting it had STATE-ISSUED photo ID. The Arizona Motor Vehicle ID card was accepted without any problem.
So, you might want to consider asking the state to staff an information booth at your Arizona show, with information available about the ID card program or, if they decline, you might want to have your staff research this program and have information available to hand out at the show. I have been coming to Arizona during the winter since the late 1970s, and have owned property here since 1981, and just learned about the program last winter. I trust that this information will be of use to you.
