Dear Bird Talk,

As I was reading your magazine from Spring 2010, Issue 74, I came across the Food and Drink section. I was so interested in the article about nut varieties, as it suggested that you have a glass of wine with these appetizers. I was so happy to see this until I came to the wine. Shari’s wine selection for one was an Italian red and for the other it was California, Chile or Australian Red. I take objection to this, as we in Canada have many wines that have won numerous gold awards all over the world. It seems to me that, since the CSA seems to be all about getting more from our governments, they would want their members to support a local business.

I live in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia and do my best to support our wine industry. I also believe that Ontario has a large wine industry.

Ed: We support Canada’s wineries, too! There are more than 200 wineries in British Columbia alone and more than 150 in Ontario, with many more situated in the other provinces. So much wine to taste – so little time! We have asked Shari to give us a few suggestions and she says that both recipes demand a big red wine, such as:
