Dear Bird Talk,
Just a reminder to not have any fruit in the car when crossing the border. If asked about fruit, and one does not declare it and fruit is found, it is a $300 fine.
If crossing at Detroit, there is a large Meijer grocery store just a few miles south on I-75, where people can stock up their coolers. Hope this helps. No, we didn’t get a fine; she found the fruit before she asked the question!

Ed: It’s a long drive, but the border guards are not sympathetic, as most of us have experienced. Eat any food before you get to the border and plan a stop to stock up after you are passed through.
