Money Orders

Dear Bird Talk,
Re: Summer 1999 issue, page 11.
I also had the same problems as Kenneth Ramsay. A teller in St. Pete’s, Florida told me, a Canadian money order could bounce like a cheque. I explained that I’d paid cash at the bank for them. I had to use the machine for cash.
Fortunately, our motel accepted Canadian funds, so I used the money orders for accommodations.

Response:
We find it baffling that a money order would be refused at a bank the whole idea of a money order is that it is as good as cash. To avoid any problems in the future, we recommend all travellers use the currency of the country they’re visiting. Also keep in mind, if you lose a money order, it’s very difficult to recoup your loss. Travellers’ cheques are much easier to replace.
