Hurricane Ian, an extremely dangerous Category 4 storm, has the potential to bring deadly storm surge, catastrophic winds and flooding to the Florida peninsula, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a nationwide state of emergency to give local authorities enough time, resources and flexibility to prepare. President Joe Biden has also declared a state of emergency for Florida, authorizing the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate disaster relief efforts and help protection of life and property.
