In response to the emergence of the Omicron COVID-19 variant, the Federal government announced that all air travellers entering Canada, from every country except the United States, will now be required to be tested at the airport in which they land regardless of their vaccination status. This test, also known as a ‘Day 1’ test, is in addition to the pre-arrival COVID-19 molecular test which is already required for travellers re-entering Canada.
Fully vaccinated travellers entering Canada from countries other than the United States will also be required to self-isolate until they receive the results from their arrival test. More specific details on self-isolation can be accessed here, https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/isolation.
To reiterate, at this time, the re-introduction of this particular testing requirement does not apply to Canadian travellers re-entering Canada from the United States.
For a complete list of the current requirements for re-entry back into Canada, please see the following website, https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid. These requirements are subject to change and it is recommended that members review this site prior to their return to Canada.
The CSA is monitoring the situation closely and will provide members with further information as soon as it is available.
