Further to our last member advisory, The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has recently provided further details on the registration requirement mandated under the Protecting the American People Against Invasion executive order issued by U.S. President Donald Trump.
Effective April 11, 2025, all Canadian visitors to the United States not issued an electronic Form I-94, who are fourteen years of age and older, will be required to register with the federal government when staying in the United States for 30 days or longer. Generally, Canadian citizens travelling to the United States by air are automatically issued an electronic Form I-94 and therefore are already considered registered. Canadian citizens travelling to the United States through a land port of entry may not have been issued an electronic Form I-94 and therefore, will need to register with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Snowbirds are advised to check to see if they were issued an electronic Form I-94 upon entry to the United States. Please note, this is different from your ‘travel history.’ This can be done by visiting, https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/home.
Select “Get Most Recent I-94,” agree to the terms of service, then enter your traveller information. This includes your first and last name, date of birth, country of citizenship and your document number (passport number).
If your latest I-94 appears, there is no further action required on your part. An electronic I-94 means you have already registered with the federal government. Canadian snowbirds will need to print their latest I-94 and carry it with them as proof of registration and legal entry into the United States.
If an electronic Form I-94 was not issued for your latest entry, you will be required to submit Form G-325R to USCIS. Here are the steps to take:
- Create a USCIS account here, https://my.uscis.gov. Information on how to create a USCIS account can be accessed here, https://www.uscis.gov/file-online/how-to-create-a-uscis-online-account.
- Fill out an electronic version of the Form G-325R, Biographic Information (Registration). Form G-325R must be filed online through a USCIS online account. It cannot be filed by mail or in person. The form will require your full legal name, date and place of birth, date and place of entry into the U.S., current address and contact details, immigration status and criminal history (if applicable).
- Once you have registered, USCIS will post a notice (USCIS Proof of G-325R Registration) that provides proof of your registration to your USCIS online account. In your USCIS online account, you will be allowed to download a PDF version of the notice and can print it. Canadian snowbirds will need to print their Proof of G-325R Registration and carry it with them as proof of registration.
Please note that Canadian citizens are exempt from the fingerprinting (biometrics) requirement.
As we advised in our last email to members, the Canadian Snowbird Association is actively working with members of Congress and the Trump administration to rescind this requirement for Canadian citizens. It is our position that this executive order relates to unlawfully present individuals currently in the United States and should not apply to Canadian tourists visiting the U.S. for vacation purposes.
We will be providing CSA members with timely updates as more information becomes available.
